The 2013 Ford Explorer Sport come with the suspension incorporates new shocks, anti-roll bars, and bushings. The electrically assisted steering is quicker than that of lesser models, and the Sport adopts the new solidly mounted rack common to all ’13 Explorers. The brakes are upsized as well, and the Sport is cleared to tow the same 5000-pound maximum of its naturally aspirated V-6 brethren.
The Ford Explorer Sport inherits the same overall exterior theme as the latest SHO, including blacked-out head- and taillights; a dark-finished mesh grille (here with gloss-black horizontal slats); and black mirror caps. The Sport’s black-and-silver 20-inch wheels are styled similarly to the 20s available on the ’13 SHO, too. Crossover-specific touches include black roof rails and rear tailgate trim. Buyers will have a choice of four metallic paint colors: Ingot Silver, Ruby Red, Tuxedo Black, or White Platinum. The cabin Ford Explorer Sport is swathed in charcoal black leather, and contrasting seat inserts are available. Other highlights of the Explorer Sport include a tweaked chassis and some bespoke styling cues like the 20-inch alloy wheels and the black trim accents on the exterior.
